The NCAA seems to do this every time Coach Cal makes it to a Final Four.

At least nobody has violated federal law by leaking the Memphis players' grades to a newspaper -- yet.

Points of interest:
* Coach Pastner is safe as he was not part of the program at the time
* Derick Rose is the player in question as he is the only player who fit the NCAA description based on timeframe.
* John Calipari is not named in the report but has been asked to attend the hearing.
And now the negative:
* It had been inferred that someone outside the Memphis program is responsible for the "problem".
* Someone within Memphis (AD office or an assistant coach) knew about this issue.
I hope the person responsible (internal) falls on their sword. Because while Calipari seems to be in the clear, there a certain former assistant I'd like to see removed from any future developments with this story.

Golf coach is screwed.
I don't know what you can do if your recruits try to cheat the SATs. That's pretty much up to the kids. Do we have money in the athletic budget to hire private investigators to tail our players 24/7, so that we'll know if they try to cheat on tests or accept money from scumbag agents? It's been a long, long time since I took the SATS, in fact I don't even remember where I took them. Maybe my school? If the people administering the test don't recognize you on sight, and you have a decent fake ID, it's got to be pretty hard to catch an imposter. I wonder what evidence the NCAA has. The imposter or the person who paid him would have needed to contact the NCAA. Either that or Rose did something stupid like score 1600.

This will be big news and we are likely to be on the coattails, like it or not. The talking heads will be telling everyone about how we vacated the final four due to issues he had here.....without telling the actual story.

Too late. Just did my usual search for UMass sports news and was overwhelmed.

Bruun dropped two pennies into a "need a penny jar" at 7-11, -blank- came into the store and used 3 pennies.
I am a person who believes in rules and follows them, but this seems like a coach who cared about her players. Did she go about it wrong, yes; but did she really give the Memphis womens golf team a leg up? Now as for the gifts... well I can't defend that.
