KAEO Alex Oriakhi

Post by Old Cage » Sat Mar 10, 2012 12:39 pm

From Dewey just now:

"According to the New York Times, UConn players will be allowed to transfer without sitting out next year because of the postseason ban. Alex Oriakhi is a Massachusetts native. Chew on that for a moment."

"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

Would welcome him with open arms. High motor kid who steps up against competition. And he could really push the program over the top, in both the A-10 and the nation.

BUT I don't see it happening because if we are going to get a transfer it will probably be someone who will play for more than one year. We already have a 9 man rotation for next year. Who would he be taking minutes from?

No thanks. No more UConn transfers. Bad mojo.

I'd take Oriakhi in a heartbeat -- but would also take Boatwright.

That would sure make things interesting!!

He is from Lowell, I believe his cousin played for UMass-Lowell.

Don't know if Andre Drummond is sticking around another year of going for the draft. That might affect his incentives.

Regardless of which school he may come from, I'd think Oriakhi would give us a lot of size and depth at Center. I don't watch ConnU but I think he'd be one of the better Centers in the A10.

It would be one heck of a one-year insurance policy against any issues that could affect Cady and Tyler.

Well I certainly learned a lesson this AM. I clicked on Old Cages link, just thinking it would go to Dewey's article. Instead, I wound up at one of those sites we just don't go to in my family. Thankfully, neither my wife nor son was in the room. Always think about a link before you follow it!

IMO, this is a much bigger impact than not being tourney eligible. He's already had his tourney run, I would think he's thinking more about his post grad future.

I would certainly welcome him with open arms. Feel like his game is very comparable to Sean Carters but better, so it would basically be like Sean came back and got better. I do have questions about his character and heart and thats why it would be tough to compare him to Hova. Good rental, i'd take it but wont put too much stock in it

Anyone who wouldn't want this kid is crazy! He averages close to a double double in the Big East conference....I like Sean Carter, but Oriahki is MUCH better than Sean is. He could be the difference from us most likely making the tourney next year to us being a Top 20 team!

It's all about whether or not he's a culture fit. If he sees himself as being above the brand, he's not going to help us. If he's a team guy, he'll fit in great. This sounds cliche, but it's hugely important in the college game.

Yeah, this is what we need - a UConn player coming over here and messing with our chemistry on a one year loan. You guys haven't learned to hate UConn enough.

+1
Is there even an indication that the guy wants to leave? If not, this seems pretty pointless.
