2014-15 Random College Basketball Talk

Post by natwam2547 » Thu Nov 20, 2014 5:21 pm

Starting a new thread for anyone who wants to talk about random college basketball topics that might not involve Umass as the season progresses. I could put it in the general discussion board, but not as many of you insightful college basketball fans visit that board as often. The closest thing I could find was the opponent watch, but Chris does a good job with that and I don't want any random talk hijacking it as we go.

How about USC losing to Akron today by 20? After losing to Portland State by 8 already. Smart of Andy Enfield to cash in on the popularity of dunk city, but he might not be long for LA. He still has his hot wife though.

Was just looking at all the brackets for these early season tournaments. Maui is usually the most loaded tourney, but WOW Battle 4 Atlantis is going be insane!

#4 Wisconsin vs UAB with the winner playing #7 Florida-#41 Georgetown. #29 UCLA-#18 Oklahoma getting the winner of #11 Gonzaga-#6 UNC. I know what I'll be watching during the Thanksgiving break. That UNC-Gonzaga game is a Final 4 like game in itself!

The Orlando Classic is impressive too with Kansas, Michigan State and Marquette with Coach Wojo.

Here's a good link for the schedules/brackets for these early season tourneys:

Is the Battle for Atlantis being held in the Imperial Ballroom again?
This is the most enjoyable losing season ever!

Cuonzo Martin looks to be doing a really nice job so far with Cal. Up 16 on Syracuse with 10 minutes remaining. Tennessee really screwed up that one.

Agreed - Tennessee to Cal should not be a step up, they should have paid him!

Apparently it wasn't just about his salary, but the whole indifference to the basketball program. Plus some reactivity about losing Pearl.

I hope he achieves success at CAL too. Seems like he got an unfair shake at Tenn. Crazy to see how his tenure was deemed a "failure" and he got his team to the Sweet 16. Glad he left.

USC beat 0-3 Drexel by 2. They are a disaster right now. Poor Bruiser's team is off to a rough start.

Old A-10 foe Charlotte with a decent OT win over Penn State yesterday in the Charleston Classic. That field is pretty weak this year.

^Kentucky pulling away in the 2nd half. Now up 18, but still sure looks like they're playing to the level of their competition against lesser teams. Maybe Cal is trying out some different things against these teams?

Most shocking game was Florida needing OT to dispatch Louisiana-Monroe at home. Gators are in for a drop in the polls next week.

The Gators haven't been at full strength yet this season so it's not totally shocking. Assuming they get healthy, they'll be a top 10 team at the end of the season.

App State, who had lost their first two games by 26 (Ohio) and 19 (Furman), just beat Virginia Tech in their building. Go figure.
