UMass has Greek walk-on

It is a coincidence. New University of Massachusetts coach Steve Lappas is Greek and loves being Greek.

Evangelos Kotaridis is Greek too, and he's the newest Minuteman. The academic junior and sophomore in athletics tried out and made the Minutemen roster this year.

The Athens native is 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, and goes by the nickname Paco.

Kotaridis, who will be introduced along with the rest of the Minutemen at Friday's Midnight Madness, joins Amherst native Dwayne Killings as one of the team's two walk-ons.

The Minutemen named their three captains for the upcoming season. Seniors Kitwana Rhymer, Shannon Crooks and Eric Williams will all bear the honorary title.

UMass' Dec. 23rd game against Maine just got a little easier.

Huggy Dye, a 6-foot-2 senior guard who was arguably the Black Bears' best returning player, was kicked off the team Monday by coach John Giannini after the player was charged with assaulting his girlfriend, according the Bangor Daily News.

Maine was considered a potential contender for the America East title.
