The 1997-98 UMass Minutemen men's basketball team represented the University of Massachusetts. The Head Coach was James "Bruiser" Flint. The team played its home games primarily in the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, and was a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The season represented the 89th season of basketball in the school's history.

• A-10 Tournament: 1-1 (Lost in Quarter-Finals)
• Postseason: NCAA Tournament at-large bid, lost in the First Round
