CMU's basketball arena, and the UMass football stadium, are both named McGuirk. CMU's venue is named after James J. McGuirk, a Mount Pleasant MI native and major supporter of CMU athletics.¹⁾²⁾ UM's venue is named after their longtime athletic director, Warren P. McGuirk. No indication that they were related.
CMU was coached by UMass alum Tony Barbee from 2021-25.³⁾⁴⁾
