Even if he averages one point and one rebound this season, who cares. We've seen it so many times where a guy doesn't make an impact right away but by the time he's a senior, he's an all-conference player: Stephane Lasme, Tony Gaffney, Ricky Harris, etc.
Don't forget Kris Kirkland in that list.

Just got back from the game and I have to say Dowling is a very good D 2 team, they shot the lights out. With that said, we have a lot to work on. We are clearly an inexpierenced team that will get better as the year goes on. I was impressed with our full court defense and I was very impressed with Farrell and Both Carters. Sean Carter will be a stud for us. He has an unbelievable motor and I dont want to get carried away, but I believe he will be better than Gaffney was inside for us by next year.

I definitely thought Farrell and Sampson looked like the best out of the freshmen and not just because they put up the best numbers but because they seemed to have the most well rounded games on both ends of the floor and were the most aggressive and active of the bunch. They both looked good on the perimeter and played aggressive on the glass.

Sean looks like he'll be absolutely critically important this season. When the guards get this DDM down and Sean gets more dump down and alley oop chances, he could put up some very good numbers. Bailey looks like a competent backup C. I think we'll almost never see Sean and City on the floor together.

Got back from the game a little while ago and overall it was a pathetic performance. It's going to be a very long frustrating season.

Gibbs - at about the 35 minute mark I was feeling like he brought absolutely nothing to the team, that Correia is actually better. The he caught fire, took the ball to the hoop a few times. His shots didn't drop, but no shit, if you don't get used to doing it it's not going to flow. Those last five minutes he showed who he could be. I hope next game he plays like that for 25 minutes.

Harris - gave it his all. A wonderful player. He understands the offense, took it to the hoop many times.

Gurley - eh. Did sky nicely for one rebound. Apparently he had eight. Whoever he was guarding ending up making open 3's.

Sean Carter - played with passion but was kinda out of shape, getting winded a lot. Not a lot of offense.

Bailey - surprised me with his ability to get up and down the court. I don't understand why he didn't dominate against the much smaller opposition. Not a good sign. Did make a nice pass early in the game.

Correia - does what he always does. Tight defense, good handle, hit a 3, missed a 3. Overall, I believe he was at least as good as Gibbs if not better, aside from Gibbs' wonderful burst at the end.

Javorn Farrell - didn't do much early in the game, but really brought it to the pressing defense at the end, throwing his body around with abandon. Took a bad shot at one point, but it ended up not mattering.

Freddy Riley - amazing athletic ability. Really can jump and run. Hit a 3 then had a couple that bounced out and then took a bad one. Keep shooting, Freddy! Didn't attempt any drives, and he's gonna have to in this offense.

Sampson Carter - looked okay, had some nice putbacks. Not was quick up and down the court as I expected, but was able to put the ball on the floor a couple of times.

TV - also had some nice putbacks. Seemed comfortable with the ball and was used up top on offense.

Trey Lang - got some minutes at the 5. He seems really quick for a guy his size.

Putney - that guy is incredibly skinny and boney. Threw up a 3 that went in, still a bad shot, didn't look like he knew what to do in the offense. Looks like he'd get broken like a twig in a real game.

Matt Hill - dnp

DK - he looks nervous and insecure, to me, on the sideline. Made several good adjustments--getting the ball in more to the big men in the second half, going with a smaller line up, and the calling for the full court press.

Overall, the freshmen looked good. Except for Putney, they all looked like they kinda knew what they were doing and belonged out there, unlike many other newcomers we have seen. DK's comments on the post-game show were revealing, I thought. That only Farrell and Sean played hard, and that's the way he wants the whole team to play. That he's not sure if Gurley's gonna start against UCF. He has to look at the tape, he said.

But to struggle like that against a mediocre Div III team without it's best player, it's just pathetic. We're gonna get creamed against real competition.

Interesting game. There is clearly a lot of work to do, but I am not too worried. Once the freshman get some play under their feet I am sure we will start clicking on offense and defense much better. There is only so much practicing against the same people everyday can do.

DK invited a bunch of students into the locker room before the game to hear the pre-game speech and run out of the tunnel with the team, it was very cool.

Sean is only a sophomore so by his junior or senior year, he could develop into an excellent A10 player. He's got a great combination of size and athleticism and motor. I'd like to see more offensive skills before comparing him to Gaffney last year but no question that we'd be in huge trouble this year without him. As it is, I think we're in some big trouble down low even with him. I think we're going to miss Lynch in a big way when we face teams with a large physical front line and we need more than one beefy guy out there for more than a few minutes per game. And heaven forbid if Sean or City gets hurt. I'd love for us to pick up a big guy to go with Maxie Esho in this year's recruiting class, even if it's just a projected backup / bench player for insurance. DK may need to get himself to some JUCO games to fill that need since we haven't heard of any other potential big men signees.

This team just does not look comfortable with each other. That may be partly due to the fact that once one team gets going, DK subs in. I don't know. It will take more games to see for sure.

Nobody stood out at the point. Ricky drove more to the hoop than any point guard. Gibbs didn't show me anything. Carreia is still allergic to the paint.

Sean Carter and Javorn Far-ell came to play. I liked what I saw. Down the stretch they outhustled everyone. When your big men are diving on the floor for loose balls, that's a great sign.

Vinson looks good but he must be hurt. City did not impress me. Riley must have been 1 for 7 from three. Lang played a few good minutes.

I don't know why they didn't work harder to get the ball inside. There were way too many 3 point shots.

DK managed well down the stretch in a tight game. I still haven't seen that passion, that fire from him. Time will tell.

I was also very impressed with Sean's leadership. While sitting on the floor getting ready to go in the game he was really encouraging the guys on the floor to go hard.

At times Ricky looked very comfortable driving to the rim tonight.

I was expecting this type of game and think that this is a desirable outcome. They got the win and some good situational practice under pressure, and now the young players know just how hard they have to work to be competitive at D-II, let alone D-I. It's definitely going to be another season of struggling with a limited roster though. All I'm looking for this year is progress from DK and his growth as a basketball coach.

For the guys that were at the game, could Lang ever take Big City's minutes? It sounds like he is getting some good reviews, and city is not getting good reviews.

I dont think Lang will take City's minutes so to speak, but I do think they could split the time that Sean Carter is not on the floor.

Len what game were you watching? Sean out of shape? He may be the best in shape on the team. He was the only one working hard on both ends. Also, telling Riley to keep shooting??? 1-9 shooting, no thanks.

I won't put too much judgment on the first game especially where we didn't really have a chance to push the ball or play our offense against a man-to-man set.

Granted it was only his first game - but I think he was 1 for 9. . .that's some pretty bad shooting!!

We're not going to see too many man to man sets. The best defense against the DDM is the zone. Get used to it.

Tough game to evaluate. I think DK was trying different rotations to see what groups worked together better than others. Farrell impressed me with his hard nosed play. Sean Carter will be a beast. Big, athletic kid who plays hard. 3 years with him will be great. I thought Sampson Carter looked the most game ready of the freshman. He was active and not afraid to get in the paint. Riley I think will be fine, just had an off night shooting, but if/when they fall, he looks like an explosive scorer. Wanted to see Matt Hill at SF, but don't know if he's still hurt or what, but he got no time. Trey Lang will help us when he gets in top shape. He's a solid kid who could be a good backup player.
I agree with others who said we'll be thin in the frontcourt. If Sean Carter goes down or gets in foul trouble, we're in deep shit

It's early, combinations have to be worked out yet. Conditioning could be better as guys were sucking wind, but we all knew this would be a tough year.
Just show up and support them
