They played a slowdown, very efficient offensive game where they didn't waste any possessions and made us look silly. That's what scares me about this game. That's the way Butler plays and they are a lot more talented than Cornell was.

We are a more mature team now and have a better understading of how to use our strengths. I agree with the other posters who want to press Butler and run at every opportunity. We just have to be disciplined on defense and try to get as many easy baskets as we can. That means REBOUND!!
I remember that game. As I recall, we gave them a lot of open looks at threes without much resistance....and they made some. And we didn't.

I think we are a better team now, much more versatile offensively with Cady's development and TV playing like he has on that end.

Of course, Cornell isn't Butler, as you say.

Was at the box office an hour ago with the aforementioned GF buying her family tickets (6 total). Asked about reserved seats and the best available were Section V Row 29. Sounds like things are moving right along.

With the remote possibility of a sellout, I'm sure they'll pounce on the idea of getting as many day-of sales as possible, which could limit the number of students. Is 3000 (3K for DK) the max?

Towards the end of last season I can't remember who it was against but the student section filled up quick so the Mullins Center had signs on the doors leading into sections Z, A, B (behind the basket closest to the UMass bench) that those sections were also student sections for that game. And several students did sit over there but not enough to fill that whole area.

^Good point. I don't think many students know that that is also an option for seating. Looks like the marketing department is going all out for this game (as are Cam and Chris with the Militia), so hopefully they don't turn kids away until the place is full.

Also, I know Matty V already asked this question before on Facebook, but I'm curious to see what people think. This is the biggest UMass home game since when...? Has to be the biggest since I've been a student. Mike said on Facebook that it's the biggest since beating Maryland in Worcester in February 1997. Thoughts?

UCONN 2004 in terms of hype and such. Importance to the season, though? This one is bigger.

If they limit the amount of students that come in and are short of a sellout, the entire Athletic Department should be fired.
So it's worse to turn away students than paying customers?

Paying customers UMass should care about have paid by 6pm on Thursday.

Because you don't know how many students or paying customers are showing up ahead of time. At some point you need to make the call of ceasing to let in more students assuming paying customers are still making their way or continuing to let in students and stop letting everyone in once you get to a certain point.

Well, technically students have already paid, but you aren't wrong. That's why I followed Looney's post up with saying that they need to take a look as close to tipoff as possible. If only 8k have come through the tunstiles and only 50 people are in line at the ticket office 5 minutes before tip, you absolutely let as many more students in as you can.

The reason UCONN in 2004 was as crazy as it was is because they let in some ridiculous number of students into the building. At the time, I was told it was the most amount of students ever let in for a basketball game, and it was well over 3k. They knew they could do it based on the # of tickets sold and what the walk up crowd was like. And it worked. The place was beyond loud.

This. I'm worried that they're going to get greedy and stop letting kids in for free, all for a few extra $14 tickets, and then realize that they should have let more kids in. Once they cap it and stop letting students in, it's hard to say "wait and see" to those students waiting in line. Some are bound to turn around and tell their friends walking over that they aren't letting any more students in.

Hour by hour snowfall predictions for all of MA. Roughly 3" on the ground when folks start heading out and 6 or so on the return trip.

Are we New Englanders or not? Get out there!

The last thing they need to do is piss off students that try to get into a game especially if they are undergrads. As IV posted earlier there should be some way that close to game time they should know how many seats are available and let more students in.

3" and 6" aren't bad. I may have to try to leave even earlier to get out there though since traffic is likely to be even worse if the snow has started falling out here. I don't mind taking it very slow on the way home.

I remember hearing stories about how at the Cage the Amherst Fire Chief used to have to be there, counting heads as they went in.

Let as many students in that want to come. Mullins seats 9,493 people. If you bought a walkup ticket and don't get a seat, maybe you should be a season ticket holder.

A good potential problem to have, at least.
