Another BABC guy not coming to UM, what a shock!

Tough break not to land Bruce, especially with how hard UMass and DK recruited him for a long time. Good luck to him.

Also, the BABC handle says Bruce will be announcing Wednesday:
Wednesday is the final day of the early signing period. Seems like he will be signing early despite what he said before...

Bruce Brown has narrowed it down to Indiana & Miami and plans to decide Wednesday (Nov 18) @BruceBrown11

Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
Shame we didn't get him, but as others mentioned still a great class and I really don't mind swinging the last 2016 scholarship to the Class of 2017. Just hoping at some point in the next class or two we can grab a bigger off-ball guard that is a tough nosed defender, we haven't had many true stoppers under DK.

It's actually 6 players. Don't forget about Zach Lewis. He can practice and he's got 2 years of D1 experience. If we go with a 3 guard rotation next year, he might start at the 2. I expect De'Jon to start at the 1 and Donte to start at the 3. We'll have depth with LP, McLean and CJ.mlaconte459 wrote:^^^ Space was only here for this year, so this has 0 impact on anything to do with space whatsoever... We currently have 5 players (including pip) coming in our 16 class. I am hoping that DK does not use this one at all and attempts to use it on the 2017 class.

Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
Disappointed we didn't get Brown, but not surprised. We are loaded at guard (last count 6 for 2016 -17). I'm not that disappointed since we're already bringing in a 4* recruit at guard. Need more talent up front. We have a talented Big coming in next year, and I hope DK can sign another one. Foolish to stand pat. Never know what's going to happen, i.e., injuries, eligibility, etc., which will deplete the ranks. Isn't someone's motto: "Never stop recruiting!"?

Got a lot of heat for it, but yep, anything can happen within the recruiting process, and it's not surprising for him to sign early despite him saying he was going to sign in the spring.

"I am excited to know that UMass is committed to building the men's basketball program back to one of the best in the East and that I will have the chance to be at the helm for many years to come," Travis Ford, 4/10/2007.

I liked his coaching, and the way his teams played. I wished he had stayed, but you can't blame him going to OSU. More $$ and prestige. Though, didn't he leave the cupboard rather bare?

^ I think he said it at the basketball banquet after the season. Swampy, I know you were there as was I. He had just turned down an offer from Providence, made that statement and was gone within a month or so.

After our Final 4 experience, didn't Cal get a nice raise from UMass? And, didn't he say how happy he was at UMass and that he'd never leave?69MG wrote:^ I think he said it at the basketball banquet after the season. Swampy, I know you were there as was I. Going to Miami. Probably a little bit of revenge for them since we scored the NOLA duo. I know he's ranked the highest, but I'd much rather get 2 than 1. Happy with where we are and glad we got the guys we got. Time to move on.

Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
I knew he was not going to Indiana, I think the only reason he kept them in his final 2 is because they have been dedicated to him and recruiting him since day 1. I had a feeling it was going to come down to a dark horse, except I was leaning towards Purdue, not Miami, they were my second choice.
So we lost Bruce Brown to Miami, but we took DeJon and Brison from Miami. Who wins? I say that we win... but time will tell.

Re: KAEO Bruce Brown (2016)
^^ I would say both teams win. I think that Brison will EXCEL in the Atlantic 10, where in the ACC he would of just been a good player. For a strong guard and defensive stopper like Brown, I believe that going up against the top talent the ACC has will allow his stock to grow more when he is guarding future lottery picks.
