If I were Cooley I'd say "thanks, but no thanks" to Pipkins. Why anyone would ever want a player who admits to being "checked out" of the season is beyond me. The interviewer gave Pipkins a total pass on the fact that Pipkins was never a good leader of a leaderless team. Matt McCall may well end up being an unsuccessful coach but it is hard to succeed when the players are not bought in. Pipkins had decided he would grad transfer at the end of the 17-18 season. F him. MM should have just told him to find another school.

Best thing everyone committed to the program can do is just let all that negative stuff go and move forward. You either commit to each other and the staff (them as well), play for each other as one, or move on. Good teams and programs understand team success will bring individual success.

MM now has all "his " guys so there should be no more roster conflict. Build a team with players who compliment each other and want to represent themselves and UMass well. The shitstorm that was the coaching transition 2 yrs ago should finally be over. Its a chance to start fresh. Looking forward to it

Sounds like MM kept his promise to Pip if he kept playing him knowing he was leaving 2 years ago, to grad transfer. Wonder how many other coaches would do that so he could play his 4th year for someone else.

Pipgate adds even more perspective to the Dayton post game press conference.

What happened or was said at the press conference? It was certainly the last game where he played halfway decent.

The 72-48 loss on 26 Feb. Essentially said they are not playing like a team. Certain players are only happy when they get theirs, not if they win or lose.

The interviewer gave him a pass because the interviewer is Mike Parham a trash ass WR who got cut from the UMass football team and new dislikes UMass Athletics and in most interviews with football players he’s conducted he tries to get the players to bash Whipple so I’m guessing it’s pretty much the same thing for him interviewing basketball players and getting them to bash McCall

While this is all very disappointing to hear, I won't lose any sleep over it. The program looks to be headed in the right direction. A cleanse was needed and that's what is happening. Maybe things McCall said to Pip in his re-recruiting trip to Chicago Pip took as promises/guarantees. Who knows. If we didn't have such an impactful class coming in next season, it'd be really dark around these parts. But these guys are gone, the page is turning. It is what it is. Very Jackson of me right there.

^ Let's keep in mind that the only reason that Pip came back this year was because he had to. His eligibility would have been used up if he transferred prior to graduation. It was a no win situation for McCall unless Pip decided to play for his teammates. That didn't happen.

FWIW, in his interview by the same people, Carl Pierre also said that McCall didn't promise him anything.
