Keep Nate out all year & redshirt him if you can. No sense wasting a year with this shitshow.
Well, here we go with the "they're connected, they're a veteran group, blah, blah, blah"

I don’t think there’s a single person here that would think that at this point, maybe the Bamford supportersstevemaz wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2024 2:10 pm Does anyone here think Martin is a better coach than Duquette? it is not even close..FM is a has been big mouthed stiff.. he should be gone by Jan 1.

I understand. But he is also “under contract,” so I wouldn’t feel too bad about it.umassbaseball wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2024 1:55 pm I hate to pile on a college kid but how many times are we going to see 0-7 to start the night from 3?

I actually thought about driving out for this one, so glad I didn't. It's starting to look like the team is starting to give up and doubt themselves. There's actually no joy on anyone's face, including the leader. Long winter ahead

You are spot on with the balance comment, it affects their shooting, turnovers and the number of fouls they commit. This has been an issue for a long time. The staff includes a player development coach and yet they struggle with footwork in every aspect of the game…for those of you who are wondering why they always seem so hectic and out of control, this is your reason.DoctorJ wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2024 2:03 pm This is terrible. They have fight and spirit but they just can't shoot.
It's a game that requires balance and we are profoundly unbalanced. This is very sad because the players have talent.
When I do go to games I get there early and go down close and watch them go through their drills and they never, in my opinion, do them correctly and the assistants working with them never correct them.
Certainly substitution patterns and other things are hurting them but a lot can be traced back to simple basics.

This is just a poorly constructed team, the pieces do not connect. It’s great that they all get along but I’d rather have some discord amongst guys who hate to lose basketball games.
Forget the 3pt nightmare, this team misses layups, put backs and free throws. Going to be a long winter.

If we still had Keon, maybe Diggins could sit and they just play Curry off the ball. I actually think we miss Keon as much, if not more, than Cross or Cohen. I’m also starting to think that maybe Diggins just isn’t nearly as good as we thought he was. He transferred from UConn, had an ok sophomore year, and a good year last season when Keon gave him looks and Cohen and Cross allowed him to launch. But he has never played particularly good defense and doesn’t really do much of anything that stands out. Now he’s lost his shot. More importantly, Frank is NOT even coaching to the line-up HE brought in. We don’t have shooters, but the game planning is so poorly aligned with individual strengths and limitations. Zero identity. Players don’t seem to know their roles and consequently play out of rhythm and make terrible decisions, and his substitutions are just utterly bizarre. Every game you can count on a game deciding run and Frank just watches. The adjustments or timeouts always come too late. Even with all their faults, a coach with a little imagination and tactical chops should be able to have this team above .500.Floyd wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2024 1:59 pm Yeah, I think I'd have him coming off the bench for a few games. Totally out of sync, really not giving us much. I think now it's really a mental thing as much as anything
This team desperately needs a Vince Lombardi “Gentlemen, this is a [basketball]” moment.

Like a previous poster commented on, this team doesn’t adhere to basics. If this is not discerned in the scouting/recruiting/signing cycle, and then enforced in practices, then ONE PERSON is to blame, and his “initials” are Frank Martin. The Gamecocks knew they had an albatross. Nice move Bamford, you dumb A—! Looong season ahead. Cut our loses, and hire a fundamentally sound coach & staff!

One of the people who went to the game with me is my niece's fiance. He played for Lowell many years ago and has a pretty good handle on the game.
He made a few observations, some of which have been mentioned.
1. Does Frank always play zone? No, I said. Normally he plays man, but he said our guards can't cover anybody one on one. His reply; you can't play zone against a good outside shooting team.
2. On offense, he commented on poor spacing and the fact that nobody was moving. Most of our baskets were one guy driving to the basket and either taking a shot or getting fouled. Hardly anybody cut to the basket when a guard was driving for what should have been an easy dish.
He didn't comment on substitutions because he doesn't know our players, but he did say this is one of the worst shooting teams he has ever seen. He's right and that's all I'm going to say about this game.

We shot 48%. That ought to be good enough to beat this team. Assuming we play defense. It sucks living in Ct being a UMass hoop fan.

Must be. It was bad enough working in greater Hartford.
