KAEO: Rahsool Diggins
Re: KAEO: Rahsool Diggins
I'm expecting Jaylen Curry to have a breakout year. I get the sense the kid is a real worker, and his talent is obvious. Last year he seemed to really listen to Frank, and another year working out with Rahsool should make them a pretty dynamic backcourt. I like this kid and think he could be a real good one here at UMass

LUTE OLSON NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UMass’ Rahsool Diggins has earned Lute Olson National Player of the Week honors. The 6-foot-2 senior turned in a monster performance last week, scoring 46 points in the 3OT win at Fordham. For the week he averaged 31.5 points, and 5 rebounds, as @UMassMBB
won a pair of @A10MBB
games.
The 2025 Lute Olson National Player of the Year award will be announced in April in San Antonio, site of the 2025 men’s NCAA basketball championship.

And to no surprise, he is the A10 Player of the Week as well.

Good question... I'm assuming no one, since the Lute Olson award has only been around since 2010. No mention of previous winners of the weekly honor in the UMass presser.

Re: KAEO: Rahsool Diggins
I definitely have some gaps in the things I document, but I had never heard of that award before, so I'm guessing that's a first for a Minuteman.
UM has gotten a little lax with their documentation also. There's a chance they missed one also, but if they didn't mention it in that release they put out, assume it's a first for UM.

Well deserved, RAHSOOOOL DIGGINS!!
Not just the A10 player of the week.. NATIONAL! PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kind of weird the player of the week is named after a coach and not a player but it's all good

Re: KAEO: Rahsool Diggins
I never heard of it either Mike, and if you haven't, since you pretty much keep track of everything, then most likely it is a first for a UMass player. Makes it all the more impressive for Rahsool, national recognition. We'll done!

He got another National Player of the Week honor, this time from the US Basketball Writers Association related to the Oscar Robinson P.O.Y. award.

Nice. Thanks for sharing.
Re: KAEO: Rahsool Diggins
Rahsool could play one more season, as a grad student, yes?
He wasn't a COVID year guy, so no bonus season because of that.

HUUUGEEEEEEEE if true! I thought that no doubt this was his last seasonMikeUMA wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:04 pm Rahsool could play one more season, as a grad student, yes?

Re: KAEO: Rahsool Diggins
Hunh, I kind of assumed his first season season at UConn counted as a full season since there was no injury or anything, but maybe only playing in 9 games allows him to get that year back?MikeUMA wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:04 pm Rahsool could play one more season, as a grad student, yes?

Re: KAEO: Rahsool Diggins
Yeah maybe I'm wrong. The whole transfer portal thing has messed up my sense of what the rules are anymore, and I saw a proposal to allow 5 seasons of play was floated.
Yes, his year at UConn counted, so this is year 4 for him.
