Women's soccer

Post by LS71 » Thu Nov 07, 2024 12:52 pm

I've been watching UMass women's soccer more closely over the last few seasons for a couple of reasons. My granddaughter plays the game so we've gone to a few games. Also, my daughter had Chandler Pedolzky and her twin sister Emma who transferred in from Bryant this year.

Last night, Emma scored the game winner in the 89th minute to carry #3 UMass over #5 Dayton 2-1 in the semis of the A-10 tournament in Dayton. They play #1 seed St. Louis on Sunday for the A-10 championship in St. Louis at noon central time and will stream on the +. Go UMass!

UMass lost 3-1. Hoping for an at-Margaret.

They played really well but just couldn’t win today.

UM WSOC was picked to finish 4th among the 13 in the MAC this season

For context, we finished 3rd in the A10 last year, and 4th in 2023.

Won 1-0 yesterday vs St. John's. I believe this was the first game (non-con, of course) for the Department as a full MAC member.

UM was supposed to host Northern Illinois yesterday. For some mysterious reason, the match was postponed/canceled.

UM at first said postponed
https://x.com/UMassWSoccer/status/1972348963417383323
And then they said canceled
https://x.com/UMassAthletics/status/1972383375802663218

Collegian tweeted about it but mostly repeated what little UM said https://x.com/MDC_Sports/status/1972355873034088695

Seems to be an anomaly for NIU. They've been playing their schedule thus far. https://niuhuskies.com/sports/womens-soccer/schedule

Really curious what happened here. As we've been criticizing the MAC move, one of the things we've pointed out are the much longer road trips involved, and the added cost that will burden the non-revenue sports.

It had nothing to do with travel. The reasoning is currently unconfirmed, so I won't go into it here... but if you do some digging into Twitter, TikTok, Instagram and/or Facebook, you'll likely find it out.

Here's something from a news source.

Part of the Master Plan for Athletics should include locker rooms at every venue. Div 1 athletes using Porta-Potties is not a good look……and would have avoided this reported incident.

Maybe not so much a formal locker room, but at least a shared facility for the soccer, softball and T&F where with separate athlete and fan bathrooms, equipment storage, and even concessions for fans.

I believe these three fields are the only ones without something like that onsite. Football has its own, Lax and Field Hockey has Boyden, Baseball has Mullins, etc.

UM has a visitors locker room for football that used to house two teams . Make some adjustments and get more use from that.

I saw a report that referenced McGuirk for this game, but the schedule shows Rudd.

Field Hockey plays at Gladchuk Field and there could be a shared visitor’s locker room. Doesn’t have to be more than open locker rooms with private bathrooms for the athletes.

My bad regarding W FH, I just assumed they played at Rudd, and completely forgot Gladchuck existed. They do probably utilize one of the football facilities.

Either way, the point stands about needing something for the Soccer/Softball/Track facilities at that actual location (not McGuirk).
