Please be respectful and stay on topic instead of resorting to the same dumb 'kill the program" diatribe. That's not on topic and that's not happening.
The topic is: Suspend any downgrade or kill the program discussion. "You're hired to be the new UMass AD.... Where do you begin, and what, in order of priority, do you do to address this disaster"
Thanks for staying on the topic.
Thanks Jack and believe the classics are support, recruiting, staff and scheduling.
Going in reverse order, Independence was brutal for scheduling with multi power conference games. Staffing has been an issue as no one wants to end their careers coaching an independent without properly financing. Then talent, and the old age saying, you can't teach talent. But in the talent stack is getting players with a good work ethic, drive to be successful and good team mates is never easy, especially without the support from the governor, president, BOT, and chancellor.
With all that said, I thought with the support moving to the MAC from the leaders, some additional financial commitment from sources, thought we be better instantly. But unlike almost all FBS sports, the football head coach is paid significantly less the basketball coach at UMass. So, the financial support is a mixed message. Positively speaking we are paying near the top of the MAC and top with overall supporting staff. Still the immediate turner hoped by many is obviously not immediate. The number one priority is recruiting good players and needed financial support by us, the new conference revenue, and cannot happen fast enough. Think we will be ok going forward with NIL from UMass starting July 1st and hope to see some fruit.
Idk, why we had so many injuries, if it's scheduling, bad luck, or players from the portal not being totally honest. In Tyler Martin's interview, he said a number of those players were two faced. Should add time and developing staff, getting acclimated to the players, proper vetting time of recruits going forward.
Cal's 1yr, the crowd is Booing. He stands up, turns to the crowd and says "Cheer for us!"
