Let Thorr promote the program & give Joe the resources he needs to recruit his players and coach them up. This season looks like an organizational mess
Entire operation is a clown show. Luckily, we are so bad that no one else even cares enough to make fun of us. Umass is quickly just becoming that team that’s always in the bottom 10 poll. At least we are #1 there.

Floyd, totally agree with you in regards to Coach Joe's facial expression. but again, i am just confused with the hiring process, it appears the hire was Bamford's decision alone. Why would the school allow him to do this on his own.
Plus if you look at Bamford throughout the presser his hands were figiding with the microphone throughout the presser, showing nervousness. What a cluster !

Interesting observation about the fidgeting. My first recollection of Ryan goes back to when UMass hockey won the National Championship and the team went to Boston for the victory celebration. I believe it was the woman lieutenant governor and the male governor speaking at a couple of venues. It was COVID time with everyone properly masked and spaced. As they spoke you could see Ryan in the background twiddling his thumbs. I'm watching and thinking, sorry that you are apparently bored. I think my post here was that when you are at an event with people who can have a say in how much money you can get down the road, you are listening intently, hanging on to every word, whether you believe them or not. At the time, I just felt he was perhaps just not ready for the prime time. Still not sure if that is still the case, especially with big boy football.

He didn't. Read the tea leaves, your boy Thorr is our new leader very soon. And thank God for that.

Clearly you have not bee following the bottom 10 until very recently... Umass has been in the B-10 since pre-covid.

I’ve been following for years. We are always in the bottom 10 but not always #1. All time bad season we are witnessing

I just love how we way say well next season has to be better, it can’t get any worse than this at the end of every season. Then like clockwork the following year it gets even worse. UMass football is digging holes so deep, we’re in historically bad territory. It has to get better next year right?? Please?!!

You think we are just in the area of historically bad?

Dude, they have set the new bar by which Bad Football Programs will now be measured.

At this point I almost have to laugh about how bad we are. My question is, how bad does it have to get before we can legitimately say, there is nowhere to go but up? I realize there is no answer but it's a thought.

Just for the record being "The Worst Ever" is not an absolute. It can be defined in a few ways so may we are not THE WORST, but we are in the group.

For perspective this is what I get when I ask AI who the worst Football Programs ever are.

- the 1989-1998 Prairie View Panthers amassed an 80 game losing streak
- the 2019 Umass Minutemen due the number of blow outs that season
- the 1909 Temple owls who did not score a point in 5 straight games (but they managed a 0-0 tie in one game in route to an 0-4-1 record)
- the Cumberland Bulldogs who lost 222-0 in one game

From my own recollection, back in the 90's, you could not even get a game line from Vegas on a Temple owls football game over a period of games (2 years i think) because they were so bad.

I am going to save this search and rerun it after the FBS Championship and see if this year's team shows up asking that same question. If they can pull of an NIU or BG win it will not, but if they can close strong with 3 more losses, I bet it does.

Eldon, really going back in time with that worse ever list. Maybe we can narrow it down to ‘BCS’ era. But I do recall those Temple 90’s teams. That has always been my worst team ever comp.

The Umass 2019 is right there but that one win really gives them some credit. That defense was all time bad but at least the offense put up some points.

I typed into the google machine and that is what it spit out.

It is an intersting conversation though..... Having a histiically bad season is one thing, but just being a bad program over a number of years in a row is another story.

That Temple team was bad for 3 or 4 years if I remember correctly. Umass has been bad since Whip left. So that's been 9 years or so. You could argue that Brown closed the GAP from bottom of the barrel to the bottom 5, but that is still pretty shitty. How would you like the be Army... the only halfway decent win this program has had in 6 years.

Something has to give ... the law of averages says they cannot stay this bad for much longer... even a win or two by accident has to happen, doesn't it?

We can talk about timing of hire and exodus of players last year all we (Steve) want to. How does that explain the previous 9 years of ineptitude? It doesn't. There is one common denominator - HE HAS TO GO.

Not being with not a preferred conference, but being without any conference.

OF coarse my rant about Thorr's thread in UM General Sports.
This thread belongs in the same home as the Thorr thread! The Thorr thread belongs here OR this thread should be moved!
Be proud of the present and look to the future.
