Like scoop, I knew nothing about this flying the flag tradition until ten minutes ago.

Is this for all sports? Would Briana Scurry have done a bunch of flag flying back in the day?

No worries: The MAC Jolly Roger flag has only been a MAC tradition for about 7 or 8 years. It was introduced by MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher whose office distributes MAC Jolly Roger flags to all member institutions to fly after a big win. Brianna Scurry wasn't in the MAC, therefore any Jolly Roger flying that Brianna Scurry may have done was her own personal Jolly Roger.

Imagine being such an absolute tool that you embrace the deep MACtion tradition of flying the fucking flag to the point that you lecture hardcore UMass fans about their knowledge of a shitty conference. Yes, what it “represents.” What is represents. Honor, tradition. Get out of here. You mentioned sad? The over the top prediction bit has faded. Now you’re just kind of being an ass.

This has plunged to one of the all-time dopey confrontations on the board. Does anyone really give a crap one way or the other about the stupid flag? I was hoping to see some serious discussion about a very important game on Saturday, our chance to see where we stand against one of the MAC's better teams.

End of rant!

The first part may have been uncalled for, BUT the second part of the post was me saying that I needed to be more understanding with people not knowing the traditions. Initial thought people knew the tradition and then realize they may not know of the tradition. Explained it with a publication from the commissioner and several other people, including inthescoop were also kind in their follow post. 69MG, beating a power 4 team is always something to be proud of. Again was not going to post the flag, but did so in response to this post in the Boston College thread. viewtopic.php?t=17333&start=75#p581843

Beat the Beagles and fly the flag!!
Let's be proud of the team and agree the rants are a distraction to being supportive as fans.

*Also people may think it is just a football thing. That I don't know and will have to ask on the csnbbss.com board.
Will look for response tomorrow. https://csnbbs.com/thread-1022033-post- ... id20480600 post#12.
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

I'm hoping for a good crowd, fun atmosphere, and of course a win. Heading into unchartered territories and I need to acclimate to conference play.

not too worried about students not being on campus as they do not go anyway - but this is the game they were giving out a free ticket to anyone who donated to the can drive a few weeks back. Not sure how many people took advantage of that, but maybe that, and the fact we have won 5 in a row will give a little bump to the attendance.

I think it’s kind of cool that they “Fly the Flag”. In the A10 there was very little solidarity, and as a fan, I find it refreshing.

OK, I'm now in full conference basketball mode (when am I not??). Let's take a look at Kent State. They are 9-2 and their "official" strength of schedule is about the same as ours. 2 of their wins are over non-DI teams so they aren't factored in. I won't look at points for/against because they have racked up 123 against Penn State Shenango, 111 against Roberts Wesleyan, and 102 against Cleveland State.

Their best wins were against UNCW (UNC Wilmington), Net 94 and Austin Peay, Net 137. We don't have any wins that match those Net numbers. FSU is now 143 after their drubbing at Dayton and BC is 180. We have both played 2 games against teams with Nets over 300, but they also have the 2 non-DI games.

That's all for now, folks. I'll be back with my take on their players later in the week.

On the A10 forum they would refer to it as "P5 scalps" - so it's the same concept.

Everyone likes it when you take down teams with more resources than you, so it's as simple as that.

Now lets beat Kent State.

Ha, that's great. Never knew that. Not that anyone here seemed to know about that, but imagine if we were still the Redmen and that was being used???

Yeah those would be some "please don't say this out loud near my employer" statements right there.
