I honestly think Whip is going to shake things up and believe we have a chance to catch BC sleeping. It would be amazing if we got 50K and if 30-35 of them were UMass fans. Keep spreading he word and putting it on folks radar. An event like this is guaranteed to generate enthusiasm amongst even the most casual elements of our deceptively large fan base but people plan Labor Day in advance so the word has to get out there.
Who's got a good tailgate I can hit up? (This is my first Gillette game in the FBS era--only other game I went to was at UConn so I don't know the scene at all).
That would also give them a
reeeeaaaaally big head start on 15K average home attendance!

The 15k figure is meaningless, are there seriously people out there (other than BC/UConn nudnicks who hope we give up) still focusing on it? We will once again set a new attendance record this year and my guess is we will either be #1 or #2 in the MAC.

I was thinking the same thing...that we may well be the leader in attendance in the MAC this year.

Do we actually have that much more capacity than our MAC peers to come in #1 or 2.

Well, yes because Umass will play 3 games at a 65K seat stadium. If 35K show up for the BC game, plus 3 games at McGuirk at 17K each plus Colorado and EMU (which is band day). If Umass beats BC, there should be a carryover to the Colorado game

I guess I just didn't know how small our MAC-bretheren (well temporary bretheren) stadums were.

The folks who post on BC Interruption must be having a slow day. They are posting their predictions for this upcoming season. Now, I/we may be homers, but we are also realists. The good folks

over their think BC will beat Umass with some scores of 32-10, 33-7, 63-0, and 85-0. Talk about homers!
I am going to this game and if Umass wins, I am going to run onto the field and throw a flaming bag of dogshit at the good folks of BC

BC should be favored by 2 TDs. Their team is loaded w/seniors and juniors. Umass is still in a transition phase and is loaded w/underclassmen. It would be surprising if UMass keeps things close.

They may be seniors and juniors but that doesn't make them better. Umass has juniors that may or are better than BC. Jette and TDG are better than what BC has. Our receivers are actually better or more talented than BC which sounds weird but the missing pieces is strong OL play and a strong QB

The only place where BC is truly "experienced" will be in the secondary (all four back) and interior OL (two Gs and C back). All new starters in the skill positions, even if you include Murphy, who may have started some games at Florida but is new to the system. Only two returning starters in the defensive front seven.

For BC, you might want to keep an eye on #76, Bobby Vardaro on the OL. He's a bit under the radar, but he is getting some serious sniffs from NFL teams. I work with a relative of his and have been quietly watching his career. I watched him closely at the BC-Florida State game last year that I attended, and he played very well. Don't get me wrong, I still hate BC, but Bobby is a good kid, and we had a nice chat about football after the Florida State game. He's definitely excited to play UMass, so BC will be up for this game too.
Overall, though, I'd say BC will still be in transition to some extent, and I think UMass has an opportunity to keep the game competitive. I know Whipple will have the guys focused for this game. Too bad it's so early, we'll likely make some mistakes that will hurt us. But if we stay in the game, I'll take that as a good sign.
Gettin' excited!

First offensive play against BC, quick slow to TE running short slant over the middle...so Whip.

I already sent Whip a tweet and fully expect him to take my advice, a run up the middle for 3 yards followed by a 72 yard flee flicker. #FireTheMusket

If anyone Is interested the BC interruption website has an analysis of our game with them on 30 August. Fun to read as they don't know much about us only that we suck especially on O. One jerk predicts a 49-0 halftime score!!
