Game 16, 2013-14: at George Mason
I understand the larger point you're trying to make. Obviously, the DC area is MUCH more populous than Amherst area. However, your 200K estimate is way off. The Springfield metro area is around 700K, all of which (by my estimate) falls within 40 miles of Amherst. And that doesn't include towns like Gardner which are to the east.UMass87 wrote:IV - Fairfax is 20 miles from DC. Those 4 million people are within 40 miles of Fairfax. There might be 200,000 people within 40 miles of UMass.
Right, I have a new screen name. I happened to be out tonight in Boston. However, I would have much rather spent it going back and forth with Jdawg Naismith on this George Mason game thread. You are the biggest ass on this board.jdawg 43 wrote:He might have a new screen names so no one knows it's him...Old Cage wrote:Where's 78 when we need him?

Does any of that greater Springfield overlap with greater Hartford? Because, sadly, they are unlikely to show up at the Bill.CrazyLegs wrote:I understand the larger point you're trying to make. First time I have ever read through an entire game thread. It is awesome, especially the incredibly keen insight of Jdawg Auerbach Naismith.
Was at a show in Boston and during intermission had my phone out. Intermission ended with 1:02 left in the game and us down 1. I then had to put the phone away and wait almost an hour to find out what happened. As soon as the show ended I took out my phone and had several text messages from my son who is a frosh at Villanova, but still LOVES UMass. He was going nuts about how great Chaz is, incredible win, etc. etc. etc. Great show, great UMass comeback win and even my lowly Celtics won tonight, breaking a 9-game losing streak.
Life is good.

College sports are just not a priority in the northeast, especially New England, but even down as far as DC. Too many private colleges split up allegiances, and too many other options for sports and entertainment. Less people live within 40 miles of Lincoln, but Nebraska still sells out every game, and they suck.

Watching some of the Baylor game made me realize that umass has not played that one terrible half that every team seems to have. Even though our play has slipped the last 6 games, they manage to keep every game within striking difference. Baylor was down 21 at half at a bad Texas tech team and even though they made a run they still lost by ten. Umass must also be one of the nations leaders at 10-0 runs.
Very little of it. I think only a few towns in CT. That is offset, though, by towns like Gardner, Orange, Athol, etc which are within 40 miles but aren't included in the Springfield metro demographic.Gaber205 wrote:Does any of that greater Springfield overlap with greater Hartford?
