2006 College Basketball Coaching Openings
Since there have been multiple threads discussing Barbee and Kellogg as well as some other coach openings, I thought I'd consolidate some of the more general discussion into a single topic here. Below you'll find (2) break-downs of both the filled and open coaching positions:

Just realized I missed something...what happened to Herb Sendak at NC State?
OK, now I know.

The Sendek move puzzles me a little bit. Going from NC State (in the ACC) to ASU is arguably a downshift in the career path. The only reason is something the article mentioned:
Despite the string of NCAA appearances, Sendek had come under criticism from Wolfpack fans, many of them angry at his 17-54 record against Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest, the Wolfpack's three in-state ACC rivals.
This was nothing new. I remember when we played them a couple years ago, their message board was full of anti-Sendek stuff. From the outside looking in, I thought he did a decent job.....tough area to recruit in. There is a little bit of competition nearby.MikeUMA wrote:Despite the string of NCAA appearances, Sendek had come under criticism from Wolfpack fans, many of them angry at his 17-54 record against Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest, the Wolfpack's three in-state ACC rivals.
It does seem baffling but the reason that was listed was right on: the fans had higher expectations then what they were actually getting (1 sweet 16 appearence).MikeUMA wrote:The Sendek move puzzles me a little bit. Yes, going from the ACC to a lower program is a bit odd, but in this case I think it is a little understandable. ASU has great potential to be a top program. If there is ever a time to overthrow Arizona in recruiting battles, it is now.MikeUMA wrote:The Sendek move puzzles me a little bit. Waters is in a good spot. He's back in the midwest where he can recruit. He got in a bad spot when he hired Fred Hill as his associate head coach.
Now that Gonzo has the Seton Hall job who gets the Manhattan job? I also wish that Dunphy would hurry up and make a decision on the Temple gig.
Barbee hopefully will land somewhere. That guy will be a stud wherever he lands.
