Numerous UMass connections with Kentucky basketball:

From 1989-97, Kentucky was coached by Rick Pitino, who played for Massachusetts and coach Jack Leaman. As UK head coach, Pitino was 4-1 against his alma mater.
Kentucky's roster featured Travis Ford from 1991-94. Ford went on to become a college coach, including a tenure at UMass from 2005-08. As UMass head coach, Ford was 0-1 against his alma mater.
Ford hired former UK teammate Rodrick Rhodes as an assistant on his staff at UMass.¹⁾ Rhodes scored 9 points in a UK/UMass game in 1994.
John Calipari, UMass coaching legend, coached at Kentucky later in his career. As UMass head coach, Calipari was 1-4 against his future employer.
