Originally recruited by Travis Ford. Sat out the 2007-08 season as a non-qualifier.

Freshman year (2008-09) achievements:

Played in 30 games, starting five times, playing 16.4 minutes with 3.7 points and 3.6 rebounds each game.
Career-high 10 rebounds, also scored two points in A-10 First Round vs. Duquesne (3/11).
Made two free throws on two attempts, scoring four points vs. George Washington (3/4).
Led team with career-high tying nine rebounds at La Salle (3/1).
Racked up team-high eight rebounds along with four points vs. Rhode Island (2/18).
Scored four points in homecoming to upstate New York at St. Bonaventure (2/14).
In 22 minutes, knocked down career-high tying four shots for eight points at Fordham (2/11).
Solid game with six points and seven rebounds in win over Richmond (2/4) in 15 minutes.
Put home two field goals for four points, also had four rebounds in win over Dayton (1/10).
Scored five points and grabbed five rebounds vs. Vanderbilt (1/3).
Hit three baskets for six points at Houston (12/30) in 20 minutes off bench.
Two impressive field goals in 12 minutes off bench in win over IUPUI (12/27).
In 27 minutes off the bench, scored six points and grabbed four rebounds in win over Hofstra (12/20).
Before ESPN audience at #25/23 Kansas (12/13) posted career-high 10 points hitting first four shots, also added five rebounds in 25 minutes.
Coming off the bench vs. Holy Cross (12/10), netted four points and grabbed three rebounds.
Career-high nine rebounds in career-high 33 minutes at Toledo (12/3).
In second start scored six points and grabbed six rebounds vs. Jacksonville State (11/24).
Drew first-career start at #13 Memphis (11/17), scored six points and grabbed three rebounds.
With Luke Bonner out with injury, played 24 minutes, grabbed six rebounds at Southern llinois (11/12).
In college debut had four points, two assists and three rebounds vs. Arkansas-Monticello (11/11).

Freshman year (2008-09) pre-season report from Head Coach Derek Kellogg: "When you look at Tyrell, its always been difficult for a player to come in on an off year and really dominate early in the season. You know right now he's in the process of getting acclimated to the speed of the game the intensity of the practice, the level of play that you have to bring every day, but man is he talented, I mean he has a chance with hard work and enthusiasm and intensity to be a great player here. I love his ability to score the ball around the basket, I love his ability to rebound the ball. We just have to get him to defend and block shots at the highest level and he could be a very valuable player for us."

BEFORE UMASS: Starred at Niagara Falls High School in New York ... Originally signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Auburn University, but did not enroll at the school ... Played in 2006-07 at the Laurinburg Prep in North Carolina ... Averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds ... In high school, was a leader on the Niagara Falls squad which won the 2005 New York State Class AA championship and played in the New York semifinals in 2006 ... In 2005, the Wolverines went 28-1 on the way to the state title and a No. 1 national ranking according to several publications ... USA Today ranked Niagara Falls No. 3 in its final poll of 2005 ... As a senior in 2006, Lynch was an All-New York State player averaging 18 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots per game ... In his three seasons at Niagara Falls, his teams compiled an overall win-loss record of 83-7 for a 92.2 winning percentage, and state tournament finishes of first (2004-05), second (2003-04) and third (2005-06) ...
