So I'm on the same page as Floyd .... sorry Floyd :D
I'll start off by saying I love football and can't imagine a flagship school without a program. But I'll also say I compare things now to the basketball program of the early 80's ( which I sat thru). The Cage, while nostalgic, was a dump. Dirt floor, wood bleachers, small, zero amenities. But the change all started with upgrading the players. Started with Coach Tom up thru Cal, the talent improved, and momentum built. Cage became electric again, interest picked up, then the Mullins got built. Not saying football is going to be a nationally ranked program, but it should be able to be competitive enough to draw fans & bring in money.
That said, I think state government has a "show me first" kind of attitude relative to funding any new stadium. So any money in my mind should be to improve talent and the product on the field, and build momentum and the fan base so the state sees it as a worthwhile spend. A nice new stadium doesnt win games, players do

EXACTLY!!!!! the cage was a dump. I remember going to a few basketball games 1979-1980. 2-24!!!! what a season!!!!  what I am saying is this: get rid of Bam. it's been 10 years. Let's win a fucking game. I don't care if its 1AA Sacred Heart or NAIA New Mexico Highlands. On X there is @Sparticus who seems to know about football. He says UMass stays FBS come hell or high water. I agree but if we go 0-36 thru 2027, then I think the MAC boots us. and that would be the end. Came so damn close vs Buffalo. Maybe Northern Illinois gets us a win.

I'll help you, Vince Lombardi/John Madden:
College football has new clock rules for 2024

Consecutive timeouts: Teams are now prohibited from calling consecutive timeouts. OK, Scott Hansen, explain how UMass blew the game with the lead and the ball with 60 seconds to go. I don't care if it was 1st and 10 on the 25; 10, or goal line.
it's basic: the game clock does not stop after a running play. why didn't we run it 4 times

IV, I didn't go to the game, shame on me, maybe you did. I am planning on going to the NIU game come hell or high water. I'm not the best at driving at night, I've got eye issues now. Don't care if it takes me 3 hours each way.

This has been addressed ad nauseum in the Buffalo game thread. Yes, Buffalo had all three timeouts remaining with about a minute to play. UMass could not simply run out the clock. They needed to get a first down. If you want to see the coach's full explanation, here it is:

Further comments on this should really be directed to the Buffalo game thread.

Let me help you, that would be calling time outs back to back without a play in between. Even if UMass had run on 3rd and forever without the first down running it on 4th and forever would have stopped the clock and given Buffalo the ball in the redzone given the clock stops on turnover on downs.

Maybe spend some time actually understanding the rules and how the game is played before opening your mouth.

I said just be Buffalo good and they will sell out every game and the atmosphere will be like it was today - that was fun.

I guess you can blame Bamford for hiring Hyrisimiak but you cannot blame him for Joe's absolute disastrous clock management in the 4th qtr. I never coached football in my life and I was screaming to not snap the ball until 2-3 seconds - I think 6 times under 4 minutes up 1 point they snapped the ball with anywhere from 15-20 seconds left - WHY???? Yeah Buffalo would have started using their timeouts but thats a good thing. Do the math - we intercepted the ball with under a minute - you let the clock wind down and there's probably under 10 seconds and we take 1 snap and kneel on the ball.

The unsportsmanlike penalty after what we all thought was the game winning INT was a killer! INT was at the 25 - now you decide to do a snow angel in the middle of the field and all of a sudden your inside your won 10. Of course you lose yardage on the next two plays and now your kicking from the back of your end zone. HUGE difference kicking from the 20-25 yard line and the back of your own end zone.

And one more thing - why does it seem like every game this year is 4 hours long??? WAY too many breaks IMO.
someone explain to me how you lose a football game with the lead and the ball with 60 seconds left............We had 4 downs at 40 seconds each. Did Buffalo have all 3 time outs remaining with 1 minute to go???? HOW THE FUCK DID WE LOSE TO BUFFALO???
you are right - they had all three timeouts - we lost yards on 1st and 2nd down - Buffalo called TO each time - then on 3rd down we threw an incomplete pass so they still had one timeout left - did not matter as they scored in about 30 seconds not using their last TO.

Kennesaw State was on the other night and I think their stadium is smaller than ours. They are bowl eligible.

And its going to be great because my son is working at the BC-Notre Dame game and I hope ND wins by 99 points!!!!
