At UMass
- Became “Mr. Clutch” over the course of his UMass career, for hitting many game-tying and game-winning shots.
- John Calipari on Williams, after the West Virginia win (1/27/95): “Anytime you have Mike Williams on your side, which we do, and it's a close game, we have a chance to win. I don't know of any player in the history of college basketball that has made bigger shots.”6)
- For all the clutch shots though, the Atlantic 10 never recognized him with a Player of the Week award.

1994-95 Senior year
- Suspended by Coach Calipari for violating team rules, prior to the Feb. 16 game against Duquesne. Was subsequently dismissed from the team and brought an end to his college career.
- CLUTCH: Hit a three with 16.5 seconds left in overtime to seal the win at West Virginia (1/27).
- CLUTCH: Hit a three in the final minute of regulation to put UM ahead, in a game UM would go on to win in overtime at St. Bonaventure (1/10).
- Was suspended for the pre-season exhibitions, and the season opener against Arkansas, for academic reasons.
1993-94 Junior year
- Named to All-Atlantic 10 Third Team.
- Named the Atlantic 10 Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, and to the All-Championship Team. Averaged 17.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in the three games.
- CLUTCH: Banked in a 3-pointer to give UMass the 51-50 win at Temple (2/24).
- CLUTCH: Hit a pumping, 10-foot scoop shot with three seconds left to give UMass the 56-55 win over Temple (2/13).
- CLUTCH: Hit the go-ahead shot with 1.2 seconds left in UM's 84-83 win at Oklahoma (11/28).
- CLUTCH: With 20.2 seconds left in regulation, hit a 3-point basket to force overtime versus #1 North Carolina (11/24). Hit another three with 13.2 left in overtime, extending UM's margin and ultimately securing the victory.
1992-93 Sophomore year
- CLUTCH: Hit a three with 0.4 seconds left to win it at George Washington (2/13).
- CLUTCH: Hit a three with 1.7 seconds left to win it at Rutgers (1/12).
1991-92 Freshman year
- Started four games but mainly came off the bench, behind Jim McCoy at shooting guard.
