Freshman year (2008-09) achievements:

Freshman year (2008-09) pre-season report from Head Coach Derek Kellogg: "David, he's been fantastic. Athletically he's one of the fastest, highest jumping guards I've been around in a while and I'm excited to coach him. As soon as he realizes how good he can be, and gets his body to the level that it needs to be, he has a chance to be a special player here at UMass. How quickly will that come? You know you never can tell, but when the light finally clicks on, I can't wait to see what the finished product of David Gibbs is going to be."

Dynamic guard David Gibbs (East Hartford, Conn.) signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 20, 2007, as he will join the Minuteman program for the 2008-09 season. Gibbs (6-4, 185 pounds) comes to UMass after playing at the Master's School in West Simsbury, Conn. Gibbs hails from the same hometown as UMass' 1996 National Player of the Year Marcus Camby.

As a junior, Gibbs averaged 22.5 points, 12.0 assists and 8.0 rebounds playing at the Master's School for Coach Ralph Auriental. He is beginning play in his senior year in 2007-08. Gibbs plays his AAU and travel basketball for the Connecticut Basketball Club (CBC) where he is coached J.R. Hargreaves and Pat Sullivan. According to scouting services, Gibbs is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in New England. He is rated as the nation's 28th best point guard by scout.com and 33rd by rivals.com.

"David is not only the fastest player I have ever coach, but the fastest I have ever seen on the court," said Sullivan, who coaches him for seven years with CBC. "David does everything well. He is solid on defense. He is extremely unselfish and can score at will. He has competed against the highest level of competition and succeeded. He has all the tools and see the floor very well. He makes ever player on the court better as he has the unique ability to get the ball to where his teammates can have the most success."
