- Athletic Director Ryan Bamford announced on 3/1/2022 that McCall would be dismissed at the end of the season.1) To McCall's credit, he continued to coach the remainder of the season, notching three straight wins before losing in the A-10 Quarterfinals.
- 2021-22 season: After losing Tre Mitchell, Carl Pierre, and Ronnie DeGray to the transfer portal, and no incoming recruits, McCall uses the portal to stock up with five players. Scoring wasn't the team's issue, it became defense, where the Minutemen fell to near the bottom in the nation in points allowed per game. Good wins over Rutgers, Saint Louis, Penn State were nullified by too many big nights from opposing teams.

- 2020-21 season: Grade this as an Incomplete, as UMass only got to play 15 games, with numerous cancellations due to COVID-19. Fifth place finish in the A-10 was the best since the 2007-08 season, but no wins against top teams.
- March 2020: Accepted a voluntary pay cut as UMass Athletics deals with budget challenges from the fallout of COVID-19.3)
- 2019-20 season: Going into the season, had four seasons left on current deal.4) Found a little more success with new staff and a promising group of young players, including Tre Mitchell winning A10 Rookie of the Year. Team won 7 of their final 12 games, and 4 of the final 6.
- 2018-19 season: team struggles to find consistency, and McCall struggles to get through to them during bouts of poor play and bad losses. Post-season: assistant coaches let go, and many players transfer out.
- 2017-18 season: though the 13-20 record doesn't indicate success, McCall worked through severe limitations in the roster. AD Ryan Bamford was reportedly working on a contract extension for McCall.5) An extension was indeed announced in May 2018, that carried McCall's contract through the end of the 2022-23 season.6)
- Named as the 22nd Head Coach in program history on 3/29/2017, succeeding Derek Kellogg. Initial contract was a 5-year deal, through the end of the 2021-22 season. Press conference recording.
